In the video below on CxO Talk, I asked Scott Emmons, Head of the Innovation Lab of Neiman Marcus about how technology is viewed strategically.
In my view, an organization’s innovation lab is dependent upon who is involved in it. If the innovation lab is just a rebranding of the Research and Development (R&D) department then the status quo remains. The participants of the innovation labs should represent every aspect of the organization as well as external partners and customers. The organization should provide paid devoted time to come up with incremental and transformational ideas for all participants. The ideas should not be dependent upon ‘who’ gave them but rather ‘how’ this idea can help the organization become better.
